Creating clarity out of complexity.

What sets us apart

We bring operations and projects into focus

Emily Archer Consulting sits at the intersection of business strategy, systems thinking, and operational expertise — a combination that enterprise teams rarely find in a single practitioner.

We specialize in engagements where complexity is the obstacle. Headless CMS implementations, monolithic-to-composable transitions, CMS migrations that are not on track for success, composable commerce transitions requiring both MACH architecture strategy and content modeling, enterprise SAAS platforms with contested requirements, and content infrastructure that has accumulated years of structural debt. We join mid-flight, establish clarity rapidly, and leave behind documentation and governance standards that outlast the engagement.

Our analysis process for components and content modeling were adopted as the team standard at Capital One. Our business strategy and analysis reversed the direction of a CMS migration at IBM mid-stream. Our requirements were deployed across a $5 billion entertainment company's network of websites and native applications.

  • Emily joined a team in flux with major content modeling challenges in the middle of a new CMS project. She had the challenging job of not only developing content models with the usual mix of stakeholders but also educating leadership on the purpose and value of structured content. Her input and direction resulted in a major change in direction for the project, stopping the accumulation of content debt and setting rigorous standards for not only the content models of our pages but the development process for our objects and templates, improving the working relationship between information architecture, content architecture, development, design, and taxonomy workstreams. I worked closely with Emily over the last year on modeling, metadata, and component automation logic, as well as overall information architecture and content architecture strategy. She was a wonderful and game-changing addition to our team

Enterprise Content Strategy Lead, IBM (now at Avalara)

  • Her thinking brought clarity and simplicity to complex content challenges, and she was able to organize and present information using a systematic approach. She also helped the team with user experience, and she contributed to optimizing the team's overall process, providing feedback and ideas for how the process could work better. Emily is also a pleasure to work with personally. She approached each challenge with a positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed. She is a great collaborator and teacher. I learned much about content architecture from Emily, which I hope to apply to my future work.

  • We have worked on many complex, large scale projects. I have been consistently been blown away by the level of detail and professionalism she brings to the table. While she approaches her analysis methodologies in a textbook fashion, following industry best practices and processes, she is cognizant to the client’s landscape. She is extremely knowledgeable and multifaceted when it comes to Business Analysis, Agile methodologies, and System Analysis; It is always a joy working, or simply talking shop with her.

  • Emily has been an amazing partner to work with through some fairly complex projects, and I'm appreciative of her abilities to help create order and simplicity. She's a top-notch systems thinker who's work was invaluable to helping me define the user experience for website targeted a deeply technical audience. We collaborated through several rounds of project definition — resulting in plenty of diagrams, and her input on content structuring was critical to shaping the interfaces I was designing. She's also incredibly flexible and willing to step outside her core job responsibilities to help optimize team processes. When teams get stuck finding a way forward, she always finds a way to forge a path ahead. Aside from her numerous professional skills, Emily is an incredibly warm and empathetic person.

    Lead Design System Consultant, IBM

  • I was immediately impressed by her attention to detail and professionalism. In her Senior Business Analyst role, she was tops; I always looked forward to working with her on projects. Honestly, she made my job easier. She quickly learned the customer business, and was adroit at discovering and elaborating even the most esoteric of requirements. Her understanding of our technology stack allowed her to elicit requirements, and match them with our capabilities. She delivered Functional Specifications that removed all ambiguities. I routinely referenced her specs when I was writing technical designs, and when I wanted to inform others of the standard for how we should operate. There was no question that she understood what the customer required and what we were capable of delivering; her deliverables demonstrated a keen knowledge thereof. In the world of IT consulting, Emily is a heavy-lifter. In the future I will measure others by the standards that she espoused. I genuinely believe that Emily would add instant value to any organization striving to understand, and partner with, their customers.

    Sr Distinguished Engineer, Capital One

  • Emily is one of the most detailed people I have ever met. She asks pointed questions, digs deeper, and the summarizes it all in a way that the team, despite their role, can understand. She & I worked together on several projects - but my favorite was a recent one where we were doing in-person focus groups and she was acting as my bridge between what was being released in Beta and what I knew from our visioning project. She jumped right in to my observer, note taker, and secondary facilitator role with ease - asking questions and following up. A true partner in the work. All of this happens with bouts of creativity - another thing that makes her so easy to work with. Stuck in a corner? She's help you brainstorm your way out of it all while grounded in reality.

Senior Director of CX Strategy & Research, Smith

Emily is also great at managing scope and client expectations, helping deliver high-quality work on time without losing clarity. From a design perspective, she’s a reliable partner who helps ideas translate into well-built products. On top of that, she’s genuinely fun to work with, bringing great energy to the team every day.

    Senior UX Designer, Smith

  • Sharp as a tack, open with communication, and always eager for knowledge, she readily proved herself among the most skilled business analysts I’ve worked with. Moreover, she helped us gain momentum on a technically challenging project and quickly became someone I could trust with critical deliverables and thorough analysis. Emily solves problems and cares about quality user/customer experience, and does so with a smile
